Columbus Schools must reach its 90 percent graduation rate goal
We need a school system focused on academic achievement and helping every student succeed.
I want to help our Superintendent Dr. Gene Harris reach her goal of 90 percent graduation by 2012. I will insist we get there and want to help remove any barriers in our way. We all benefit when our kids graduate from high school because this is their pathway to prosperity and they will drive the future growth and stability of this community. -
Our schools must be safe for children, teachers, parents and visitors
It is only fair that every child has a safe place to learn. -
It is essential that we increase parental involvement
School systems that use the insights of all parents will be more effective in delivering the education that we all want our children to have. We need to work with our teachers to get our students fully engaged in school, and work with our parents to find the time to sit down and talk to each other. I understand why parents sometimes feel overwhelmed when they are urged to be more involved in their child's education. I understand the challenges of time but together we can make our schools better.
